Now that we're nearly at the end of the year, here are the shows I hope you are either already enjoying or will give a chance.
Dopesick (Hulu)
The trailers looked like it would be too heavy and stressful, but my goodness it is so well done! Between this and Only Murders in the Building, I think Hulu is going to have a good year come awards time next year. Yes, Dopesick is heavy and stressful, but it is so incredibly captivating and never dwells too long in one moment. There is not a single bad performance among the ensemble. Give it a try.
Frogger (Peacock)
Don't. Sleep. On. Frogger! This show is so silly and fun.
Ghosts (CBS)
CBS has had a mixed success rate with their comedies, probably more than their peers, but when they get it right? MAGIC. Ghosts is the perfect blend of heart and humor, which makes it perfect in my book. Please get to watching! You'll be happy you did.
The Neighborhood (CBS)
The Neighborhood is in its fourth season now, which is when I typically find comedies either hit their sweet spot or hit autopilot awaiting their cancellation. The Neighborhood has hit its sweet spot. They can find humor and heart in the hard parts of life and make you feel like you're part of their family. There is a warmth to this show that I miss having too often in other shows. You can pick up live with The Neighborhood or you can go back to the beginning and watch its incredible trajectory. No matter how you start watching, welcome to the neighborhood.
Only Murders in the Building (Hulu)
They didn't even need a title for me to watch. It could have been called "Steve Martin and Martin Short Are in This" and I would have cleared my calendar to watch. Being that automatically invested can sometimes backfire, but that's not the case here. This show is smart and funny and the mystery is done right. If you're not watching, the entire season is available on Hulu now.
The Wonder Years (ABC)
Like Ghosts, The Wonder Years has the perfect blend of heart and humor. The casting is perfection. Everything that comes together to make a show could not have come together more beautifully. It's more than a show - it's a feeling. Please give it a try!
